The gardens at the Castle Mergorand are a good place to go when seeking a moment of tranquility. Stretching on endlessly are well-kept greens with bushes and small groups of trees, and various flower beds sporting the most colourful blossoms. Hedges cropped into strange forms offering an interesting variation as well as a certain means of privacy as they offer shelter from curious glances. And in the midst of it all is a charming brook and a pond with a pavilion beside it.

It is here the King can be found on this wonderful morning. Going for his morning walk as he does every day, Barret Brais has just reached this enchanting pond when he decides to linger for a while, seeking out a bench below a willow tree beside the pond.

He is not alone, of course, as a number of retainers and guards follow in the king's wake. It is hardly possible to go about on his own.

Stepping out into the garden, Argon looks around rather carefully for the moment, as if looking for someone in particular. Spotting the King, he makes his way over in that direction, steps a bit slow, expression rather thoughtful at the moment. Not speaking yet, until he gets within a distance which he can speak a bit more quietly.

There is a murmur among the retainers when Argon approaches. A murmur that does not escape the king. Barret's head turns and he shoots his cousin a glance, smiling warmly at his relative once he recognizes him. "Argon! How good to see you! Please, come over and sit with me for a moment..."

Argon smiles as he offers a nod, "Good morning," he offers, before he nods a bit as he hears the invitation to sit. "Thank you," he replies, moving over to take a seat now. "I hope you're well this morning?" A smile and a nod to those he recognizes of the retainers too now.

A smile comes in response to Argon's inquiry. "Well enough, I suppose, given I am not growing younger," the king jests. "How about you, cousin? You look well indeed." His brown eyes come to linger on the younger Brais, a glint of curiosity maybe within them. "I apologize for being so scarce lately. I feel like I have neglected my duties, and feel bad. We haven't talked in a while, Argon."

"None of us are growing younger, Barret," Argon replies, offering a quiet smile now. "And I'm well, at least not bad." Looking a bit unsure of what to say, he offers another smile. "And no need to apologize. You're the King, I figured you were busy with matters of great importance." A brief smile, before he adds, "There's a matter I have been wanting to speak with you about, though..."

"Duty is duty," the king remarks. "But family is also important." However, hearing Argon's last remark Barret raises one of his impressive bushy eyebrows. "Is that so? Please tell me, what is on your mind, cousin...?" Argon nods, "Both of those are important." He goes quiet again for a few moments. "Well, to be honest, I'm not quite sure how to say it. But like you said, we're not getting younger, and there are... certain things that has gone unattended, after all."

"Certain things...?" Barret echoes, smiling. "What do you mean?" His words may feign ignorance, but there is something in his eyes, as slightly mischievous flicker, as if the king already had an idea in what direction this conversation is heading.

Taking a few deep breaths as he hears the question, Argon takes a few moments to study the King carefully now. Noticing that flicker in the eyes, he raises an eyebrow a little, before he adds, "I have spent some time recently together with this lady, and found that I really enjoy her company. It's made me think."

Holding his gaze, the king will raise his own eyebrow even higher, in response to Argon's. "Oh." he smiles. "That's a good thing, isn't it? How does the lady feel about this? And... what are your thoughts on the matter, if I may ask." "Well, I believe she... enjoys my company too," Argon replies, before he shrugs a little as he hears the last part now. "Well... I thought I would never even think about this, but..." He goes quiet again, looking around the garden very briefly.

"This sounds rather perfect to me?" Barret comments, his eyes briefly shifting to the side. And then a good-natured chuckle comes from the depths of the king's throat. And this time he does not wait for Argon to continue on his rather hesitant delivery, but actually tries to help him along. "But...you consider...?"

Argon takes a deep breath after he hears that chuckle. "I'm considering if it isn't time for me to get married, after all," he replies finally.

"That wasn't so hard to say, was it?" Barret smiles at Argon, and his hand moves to pat his cousin on the shoulder. "This is great news. What is the name of the lady in question...?"

"Easier than I was worried about," Argon replies after a few moments, offering a brief smile in return. "Lady Livessa Ivounel," he replies, to the name of the lady. "I know I'm probably old enough to be her father, though..."

"Ah, let us not worry about such trifles," Barret replies with a shrug. "I know the lady. She is indeed very young, but if she returns your feelings, who am I to place any judgement on you. No. I am happy for you. You have been without a wife forever, until now. I was almost worried, you would continue to persue this lonesome road. Even the lesser noble House is not a problem, in my eyes. I will want to speak with the lady, of course, but if she agrees, you two will have my blessing." And the king leans back on the bench, with a pleased smile.

As he hears his cousin's words, some weights seem to come off Argon's shoulders now. "Thank you, cousin," he replies, with a smile. A few moments of pause, before he adds, "If I may ask, you didn't seem as surprised as I thought you would..."

The King nods and smiles. "Barbeta may have dropped me a hint," he admits with a soft chuckle. "But why would you hesitate to tell me about it, when you feel it is the right thing to do? How did you expect me to react other than with giving you two my blessing?"

"Ah..." Argon begins, before he adds, "And I'm not sure about why I was hesitating. I know it's the right thing to do, but I guess I was just unsure about how I should say it." A brief pause, and a smile, "And I think I was just a bit nervous, even though I believed your reaction would be the one it was. Thank you."

"No need to thank me, cousin." Barret replies, as he gives Argon another reassuring pat on the shoulder. "We need good news as this. And we should certainly speak more often."

Argon smiles, "That is true." This to both the part about needing good news, and that they should speak more.
