Where: Nathan's Room - Castle of the White Dove
Room Desc: The room of the youngest prince is of moderate size, and sufficiently lighted by a huge window, in front of which a table for tedious paperwork or even an occasional meal can be found, with two chairs. At the far end is a bed of fine craftsmanship, with the lilies of House Onimus carved into the headpiece. Finest sheets of light purple and a blanket of a darker shade provide a comfortable place for resting, along with two pillows that are filled with the lightest down of ducks. Beside a chest with the Royal coat of arms stand two dummies, one for Nathan's lighter armor for use at court and another for his battle armor.

Adara had requested to meet with Prince Nathan in his quarters, a lot had come up and it all needed to be addressed. Making her way to the Prince's quarters there is a knock on the door as Adara awaits the reply as she is accompanied by a handmaiden and a couple body guards as any proper woman should be spending time alone with a man that isn't her husband.

Nathan was easily found in his room, since he still had a theory he could organize an expedition..a knocking at the door? Well, he had best answer, so he does. "Enter." He says, a near shout to be heard through it.

At the invitation Adara opens the door and proceeds inside as the two guards flank the door, and the handmaiden closes the door behind her as she pulls up the rear, and awaits in front of the door so the noble and royal can speak in relative privacy. Adara makes her way over to Nathan and says, "There are a few things I wished to discuss, though I wish to begin by saying there are sensitive reasons why I speak against your expedition heading east. That can be discussed later however, I have a more serious matter to discuss with you." as she gestures for the Prince to have a seat.

Nathan is unsure how some thing can be more serious then the prospect of sailing into the unknown, with the hope of landfall, or a way to return home. Some people have fascinating theories on what is more or less safe. Either way, he'll settle him self down to observe Adara. "Oh? Continue."

Adara takes on a serious, though calm tone and says, "I understand you have had visits from a certain Madame in your quarters. Is this true?" There doesn't seem to be any judgement in her tone as of yet, she seems more to just be trying to confirm or deny things she has heard.

Nathan shifts a bit, not revealing much of his nature in this discourse. "I hardly see why that should concern you when my brother plays a drunken fool at banquets. Though, you seem more apt to hear whispers then make them."

ADara says, "Part of my training. Such indiscretions are not in and of themselves a problem, the outcomes of them however can be. Namely if they produce offspring or if the... Encounters result in circumstances that can have an affect on producing healthy offspring, or jeopardize future relations with your spouse when you have wed. Has such events taken place from your encounters?”

Nathan seems mostly amused by Adara. "I am not wed, how could this then pose a problem? I am simply the one whom when it is needed, watches after his Sister. What my private life holds is negligible and limited in it's scope. Concern your self with other things, such as what you will do when the Kingdom, and other Kingdoms, question the state of my mother..and that Albino that does seem to lead her life."

Adara says, "I concern myself with matters of the kingdom's stability. Even if you cannot take the throne yourself if you have any daughters and your sister doesn't your daughters would be the heir. The production of bastards pose a threat to the line of succession in such situations, not to mention possible wars of succession which is one of the worse threats to the stability of the kingdom." Her voice remains calm as she speaks to Nathan as one adult to another. "In addition if you contract any... Personal diseases there is the risk of passing them on to your spouse or even affect the health of your offspring. As you know, your sister is the only female offspring of House Onimus currently. Having children is one of her affairs, though as one of the few princes who is respectable it is also your duty as well." Adara continues.

Taking a breath she says, "Such duty might be able to be delayed as you are still young, but eventually you will be wed to someone and your primary duty is to produce potential heirs, and those heirs must be legitimate. It is for that reason bastards are potential threats to legitimate heirs when they are older, and can lead to treasonous acts. These are the reasons I ask. I doubt Madame Edris would have any diseases to be concerned about, giving her a child is still a concern. Is such an outcome possible?"

Nathan shifts a bit, sitting forward so he can more squarely look at Adara. "Careful Adara, you now stray to territory I hold dear. Any child of mine Edris carries, will be no threat to the kingdom, but a chance to have a hidden blade to safeguard it. Male or Female, it matters little, it can be used to the advantage if unforseen outcomes occur. Mother is not well..and my sister, many do not trust her and will seek to topple her, at least a child of partial right can command some respect in a time of need. Mark my words, interfere with my life, and you will discover I am not afraid of you." Oh, apparently he -did- give Edris a child.

ADara's tone remains serious but shifts to a bit more authority, "I serve the realm first, and I know well the potential risks to the situation. Whether you plan a safe guard or not, there is no way to know what the future holds and having a bastard can well risk civil war and bring ruin to the kingdom. If you wish to ensure a lasting legacy for your line or the kingdom itself, then produce legitimate offspring, they are the best hope for such circumstances, not bastards. If you wish to produce children to ensure the kingdom doesn't fall then heed our discussion previously and marry soon and give your wife heirs. Your mother has already informed me that you are to marry within two months, or you may delay that fate by speaking with your aunt about your expedition. She approves of your idea to map out the unknown World and establishing an extension of our kingdom there. I might agree to mapping out the east, but I would advise against colonizing those islands." She then shifts to a tone of authority, perhaps bordering on threatening, "You speak of a bastard being a safeguard and that the partial blood alone would grant them respect. Your sister has the full blood and lacks the respect as you say. She can potentially learn and become better, I believe since the Council meeting she is trying. You bastard however would be far younger, even if your sister is overthrown the moment your mother dies, what then? For all any of us know if there were a coup and your mother dead, anyone behind it would have to eliminate anyone with a claim to the throne which would include your sister yes, but it could also include you and your brothers as well. If its a secret your bastard has your blood, what influence or power would they have to lay claim to their thrown? What support would they have, for all you know they may be only a child when it happens in which case they have zero potential at all, and may grow up never knowing what they are. This is why bastards are never a creditable answer to such issues, legitimate heirs are. AT least with them there is the potential for them to be protected."

SHe then calms visibly and adds, "It is obvious you have sired a bastard already, the fate of the child is not mine to make, it is your mother. As queen she alone can declare them legitimate, killed, stripped of all claims to the throne. That is her choice not mine. I believe I understand your reasoning, if your claims are true, the fact remains however it is politically a stupid way of going about it, seek out ways of producing legitimate heirs and I will give you my full support in the protection of any legitimate heirs you produce." in a serious, and seemingly sincere tone in regards to helping to protect them.

Nathan just gives a sickly smile at Adara at her words. "You forget..my Royal Guard is not beholden to the Queen, but to me, and it is not like your guard. They are like the wind across the waves, rarely remembered till it bellows and rips down the masts." He says. "Nor is the child yet born, mother would have to cut open Edris, and I am afraid, I can not abide that if it were ordered. It would not serve the kingdom well."

Adara's tone becomes VERY serious now, "You speak of killing a member of the Queen's Council, the third highest authority in this kingdom, your guard exists because the queen allows it to. Will you send your guard to assault your own mother to protect a bastard?" The two guards by the door place their hands on the hilts of their swords, gaze locked on Nathan, though for now their swords remain in their sheathes.

Nathan lifts an eyebrow at Adara when she says that. "Unlike some of my blood, I do not view all beneath me as beasts. Brutality has it's place in battle, and when extracting information in short notice in reference to war. Other then that, it's rather useless, even the lash should not be applied when avoidable to the sailor and soldier. They are not such beasts in armour and coat."

Adara says, "Nor do I consider my underlings as beast, it wasn't that long ago I was among them. I will not be threatened for doing my job however. I serve the kingdom as I serve your mother, I will not be threatened by anyone short of my superiors which is the queen herself and the Fourth. I was likely to send with you some of my Whispers to assist you in your expedition if it got approved, though I get the impression your mother will use her authority to appoove it without the Council if I am not mistaken, though you would still have to speak with your aunt to determine your resources. It would appear you rely on your own people above the resources of the kingdom, so take your 'personal guard' and have them scout for you.”

Nathan cocks his head a bit. "That had always been the intention.”

Adara looks Nathan over for a bit before saying, "So the intention is for your own personal interest and glory, not for the kingdom then, or do you simply only respect those of your own family who are proven in battle? If the latter you simply sound like a warmonger. Regardless the reason for my visit is concluded. You can marry or you can seek out your aunt for resources so you can go on the expedition." as she turns to depart the room unless stopped.
