Word travels far, even from the common areas of Deavel to such refined establishments as the Night's Dream in Steelea. It had been talk in the area downstairs where wealthier commoners usually can be found, that two deaths had been discussed, the deceased mentioned to be a man and a woman, who had been found in differing locations, one at his home, the other in a back alley. It had not taken long, and the girls had reported to the Madame upstairs. It is no surprise therefore, that Edris has left again, attired in an unobtrusive simple commoner woman's attire, trailed by Bertram who looks very much like a common thug in his brownish clothes and the slightly filthy looking hat. After checking with some acquaintances of the city watch, she has finally arrived before the door of the home, where the dead man had been found. Edris will study the door most thoughtfully, before she raises a hand to give it a determined knock, that will be loud enough to be heard by neighbours, should any be about.

As the door is knocked on it is about five minutes before an old crone next door opens the shutters of her home and says, "Stop tha knockin' missy! Let a soul sleep." Of course most wouldn’t be asleep, most would likely be working at this time of day, but those that old tend to stay home most of the day.

Edris' head turns as one of the other doors is opened. Her hair is not completely obscured by the hood of the cloak as it slips a little from her sudden movement of the head. A quick sideways glance is shot in Bertram's direction, but he leans somewhere close by against the wall, in the shadows mayhaps, or has chosen a dead angle where he can't be spotted that easily.

An amiable smile appears as Edris takes a step towards the old crone, slowly, carefully, and in anything but an intimidating way. "I was jus' wondrin'", she replies, mimicking a glance over her shoulder towards the door in question. "Haven't seen'im today. Wonder what he's up to...?"

The crone looks her over and after a bit says, "I's not seen you before, and I's know that one's 'guests' well. I's don't know what you's want, but that one's dead." looking over Edris with a critical, and judgmental eye.

The old woman's sceptical glare is met with a disarming smile. "Certainly, I haven't been here in a while, mostly met him on the market place." Now she pulls some item out from beneath her cloak to present it before the crone's gaze. "A sausage. He usually bought one at my stall. Best mutton quality. Didn't come today, so I figured..." Her words trail off as her brow rises a touch.

"Dead?"

Looking astonished, suddenly, as she lowers her gaze, and the arm holding out the sausage as well. "Oh no! How... Who...?" Slowly those grey-green eyes come up again, to cast the woman an inquiring glance.

"What guests?" This asked in regards to the remark of the crone from before.

The crone says, "Women mostly, the noise comin' from that house could wake the dead. I's don't know why you didn't know, e'eryone's talkin' 'bout it. He was found dead this mornin'. Wants ta know more go ask the guard.” as she starts to close her shutters once again.

"Women?", Edris replies, her forehead wrinkling in astonishment. And then, after a pause: "Noise?" Somehow her cheeks manage to take on a rosy colour. "How do you mean? What kind of noise...?" Looking less astonished now, more intrigued. The remark about the death being more or less waved off now with a casual gesture of her hand, that is still holding the sausage. Her eyes shifting towards that splendid product made of mutton after she steps bravely closer, and grabs one of the shutters before it is being pulled shut.

"Wait. You want this? Best mutton sausage in all of Deavel, I assure you. I... could give it to you for free. If you can tell me all you know. I can't believe he's been such a scoundrel. Now tell me... what kind of women came to visit him?" The Whisper is giving her perfect impersonation of a nosy market seller here, the tone of her voice is hushed and quivering almost with excitement. "I can't really go and ask them guards, can I? And they can't know as much as you anyways, with you living so close to the place?"

The crone gives a bitter glare when her shutter is stopped by the younger woman. To the first questions she simply replies, "The obscene kind, not suitable for public discussions there are youngin's 'bout." At the offer of sausage the woman looks Edris over for a bit and says, "I's gots no teeth ta be eaten that. Fine, what do you's want girl so I can gets rid of ya?"

"Oh.", Edris replies, her eyes wide with enacted astonishment. "Obscene? Like, he was seeing a lot of them women here in his place? Now, that's... a surprise," she admits after a moment, a bit of disappointment showing in her gaze. Her hand will remain at the shutter though, while the other continues to hold the sausage out to the old woman.

"No teeth? You gotta a knife, though? You can cut the sausage into small pieces and add them to a stew. Delicious! I tell ya. Keep it, and I'm sure you'll come to my stall tomorrow to buy some more of this divine sausage." The advice offered in a cheerful chatter, while she remains where she is.

"Everything you know about this." Edris replies with an amiable smile and a stern look in her eyes, to the crone's last question. "Let's start with... when did ya last see 'im? And who came to pay 'im a visit, eh?"

The crone rolls her eyes and says, "I's don't know who it twas. All I's knows is there was a lot of noise and when it finally stopped I's went to bed. I's guess one of the men of those women found out about him and came to 'visit' him. I's sure he didn't like their visit though." cackling a bit as she clearly didn't like the man. "Is that all, can I's close my window now?” in an irritated tone, she still hasn't bothered to take the sausage.

"No. Not yet."

As long as the sausage has not been taken, Edris will continue to hold onto the shutter with her other hand. And continue to ask questions.

"So. The noises were different this time?" And then after a moment: "And that he didn't like the visit... could you hear that? Did he..." and here she makes an ominous pause, "...did he say anything? Shout anything?"

An apologetic smile curls the redhead's features now as she notices the woman's reluctance to give her more information. "You must understand, it is so boring to stand all day on the market place... This is awful, but at the same time,... so exciting..." A bit of outwardly guilty pleasure flickering in those grey-green eyes as they study the old hag most attentively.

The crone glares at Edris as she continues to not let go of the shutter and says, "All I's heard was loud noises like a fight. I was just happy when it stopped so I's could sleep.” she then reaches out and tries to snatch away the sausage still being offered and attempts to slam her shutters closed if she is able. She clearly is not in a good mood and not willing to share more.

A nod comes, in reaction to the information the old woman has to offer, and Edris lets go of the sausage when the crone grabs it. A fine smile curls the lips of the redhead as she inclines her head and she releases the shutter as well from her grasp.

"Thank-"

The last word drowned in a loud slam when the shutters are closed.

Her forehead wrinkling, Edris will turn and shoot Bertram a glance. "Hrrm, I suppose she has told me all she knows... Let's move on then." And with that said she will leave, after casting another quick glance about the place.

With Bertram following in an unobtrusive distance.
