HISTORY
|
Until the year of 672, this Isle had belonged to the House of Matos, a once strong family who was close to the Queen, but fell upon hard times. There are some who said the family was cursed after displeasing a witch from the Rumorous Islands. All gossip and rumors, right?
Yet, the family had fallen on hard times which could not be explained. Once a flourishing family, accidents would befall many, while a low birth rate took care of the rest. It all came down to the last family, Lady Solicitor Keila Matos, and her husband, Seth. Together, they had four children; three daughters: Atara, Nava, and Orli; and one son: Shaul. Life was good, happy. The future was bright for the family, or so they believed. Until that fateful day in autumn of 672, when Seth went out fishing and a storm blew in. The news would soon come to the castle that the ship, and all aboard, was lost to the sea. In her grief, Keila would order all out of the main hall of the castle, screaming at them to leave as she gathered her children to her.
For three days the servants would stay away from the main hall where the doors were barred, leaving food and drink outside that went untouched. Eventually, the seneschal would order the guards to open the doors, and what they found, left them all sick. In her crazed grief, Keila killed all four of her children before turning a dagger on herself. The House of Matos, was no more.
For years now, the island has sat idle, no House to call it home. The seneschal kept it running by the Queen's orders who had a plan for it that eventually would come to fruitation. During the Week of Onimoria when an invitation to the other Kingdoms was sent out, mention of a tourney was included - a tourney in which a knight might win the hand of a fair maiden, and together, become the newest House beneath the Queen.
Imma Grunhaid was the Lady chosen, and through skill in the tourney, Vandrik Yldon of Two Rivers, was the knight to win her hand. Upon the marriage of these two, a new House was created, the House of Aidyl, who will breathe life into Hailyd once again.

TRADITIONS
|
Ghosts are said to roam the halls of Rudon, or so the servants insist. Things go missing, items move without anyone touching them, the laughter or crying of children along with voices and footsteps are heard in halls and rooms while none are around. While the whispers of such happenings has always existed, they have become even more persistent since the Lady Solicitor Keila killed herself and her children in the main hall in 672.
Since then, servants have indulged in various rituals in an attempt to appease the ghosts. Food, drinks, small gifts, even toys, have been left in the main hall in hopes that the ghosts might find them pleasing. To mark the first year after the deaths, the servants came together and had a quiet celebration in which they remembered Lady Keila and her family, hoping that such thoughtfulness would keep her and her children silent in the following year. Words were spoken with candles lit:
"O little flame that burns so bright
be a beacon on this night.
Light the path for all the Dead,
that they may see now what's ahead.
And lead them to the eternal land
and shine until Onimoria takes their hands.
And with Your light,
please bring them peace,
that they may rest and sleep with ease.""
Some say it worked, for the most part. And so it's become a tradition that on October 31, those of Hailyd, follow what some might consider a morbid tradition of having a party for the ghosts of the late Lady Solicitor and her children, and any other ghosts that might roam the castle.
