It had been a few days in the camp of the Northern Barbarians, the entire time from morning till evening Esther had been trapped in her cage as the same man gestured and spoke, and later just spoke when there was nothing left to gesture at. Fortunately there had been enough learned for very simple communication. It is then the man finally asks in a very slow, fashion, "Why come?" to Esther in his native tongue.
Maybe at first Esther was really afraid of being here in this camp and she cursed the princess, she cursed her whole life. She never wanted to live in the cage. Though, when days were going on, the girl realized, that she has a wonderful oportunity. So, Esther tried to become as good student as she can. After all, these natives where quite good for her and the hound. Finally, she even started toenjoy the company of a man, who was trying to teach her their language. When the man comes closer, and asks that question, Esther offers him a wide smile, "Be friends," she says with an obvious accent, but quite clearly in their native language, "Send for peace. Offer be friends."
The man reaches into a pouch at his side and pulls out the ring and gems she gave the wiry woman before and asks, "Why?" and gestures with his hand that he is talking about the ring and gems.
"I..." Esther tries to find a way to express herself, using the words she learned, "It," she points at the ring, "is gift from my leader for peace. To become friends." She raises her gaze up, trying to make sure, if the man understands her.
He puts the items back in his pouch and asks, "Leader fear us?" smiling slightly.
Esther shakes her head and grins widely, "No. My leader has no fear. She is..." Esther speaks very slowly in her cute accent, trying to remember right words, "... saved by the gods. She be friends with you and you help her be leader of her home. She will marry your leader for long peace and will respect all you."
The man is silent for a time before asking, "Why not just take you leader and lands?"
Esther shakes her head, "You can not. Four lands..." and she makes a gesture, which shows a huge size of each Kingdom, "...behind forest. You attack one, you need fight all four. You be friends with one land, you get friend and take three lands together. Help my leader be leader of one land, and she will make your leader a leader of three others, if you do a long peace with marriage." Esther sighs, finishing her long and tiring speach. It is long in a language she barely knows.
He asks, "How I know you speak true?"
"My leader says just true. She serves her gods. They not allow not say true. And it..." She points at the place, where the man hidden the ring, "Very much to her heart. My leader speak true and I just her servant."
He asks, "How your leader become leader?"
"My leader is..." she raises her two fingers for the man, because Esther does not remember the numbers in their language, even if they taught her, "...daughter to leader of the lands behind forest. Father is old. Soon die. He wants to change word, that leader would be just grandchild. Not good, if he does. If he not till he is dead, my leader has old sister and brother to her father. They want be leaders. Not good. Make her. She is.." Esther shows two fingera again, meaning that she is second daughter, "...daughter to leader. She has to be next leader."
He nods and asks, "How you talk?”
Esther raises her palm up and pretends as if she is writting something. Then she points at the dog. Then the woman raises her gaze back to the man in front of her cage.
He looks to the dog as she points to him, then back and asks, "What you tell her?"
"I," Esther points at herself, "tell nothing her still," she shakes her head and adds, "I need tell her just if your leader be her friend."
He nods and says, "Leader will be told. If he likes you can..." he gestures writing on something. Seems the 'barbarians' are literate as they know what writing is, as he also says a new word in his native language as he gestures writing. He then asks, "How your leader look?”
Esther just nods at the man's remark and was ready to settle more comfortably in her cage, before she remembers something. The woman approaches the side of her cage and raises her gaze up to the man, "Not much time...Lot of time to talk to her." When she hears the last question, Esther can't hold her chuckle. She offers a wide smile and fixes her gaze on the man's, "My leader is like flower, sun or moon. She is..." Esther shows up ten fingers and then adds seven more, "Age." And she shows seventeen one more time, "She is..." Esther draws a slim figure in the air with her hands, "She has hair," and she points at the black color in her clothes and puts her hand to her waits to show length of Barbeta's hair, "Like moon, like sun, like flower…"
He pays careful attention to what she says, then nods and says, "Leader will think." as he stands to head back towards the middle of the camp.
