Summary: Marcus is summoned to speak with Lord Erek Ivounel. | |||||||
|
A messenger had been sent out to find the whereabouts of a certain Master Marcus on this morning, after the ships from the Isles had arrived on the previous day. And now Lord Erek sits in his chair by the fireplace, expecting the messenger to return with the man in question. A slight irritation is already visible in his mien, for whatever reasons, as he takes a sip from a cup of tea that had been served to him, moments ago, and a slightly impatient glance is shot towards the window.
Marcus had received the message, oh yes indeed pretty much as soon as he stepped off the ship. He had read it several times and now he is on his way to the castle. Wearing his nice looking clothes, the ones he wears when meeting higher status individuals, the ones from the Golden Lion, green and comfortable and does not restrict movements.
Once he arrives, he is indeed escorted to see the Lord. He has not ever met this man but he knows of him and knows he is father to Livessa and Baldwin. Still he follows whoever is taking him towards the Lord and once seeing him he bows towards the man, showing respect in the status. "Lord, I am Marcus, I came as soon as I was able."
Erek turns and his eyes narrow a touch when the man is shown in, he is assessing him obviously. Then his brows move up in surprise, maybe when he notices the age of the man. "As soon as you were able," he replies with a bit of a cold undertone. "Good, Master Marcus. Have a seat." His hand gestures towards a chair. "I hear you were with the delegation in the Isles..." the steward starts the conversation off in a casual tone, once Marcus is settled.
Marcus bows and smiles to the Lord and does head to the chair indicated and takes a comfortable sitting position. "Oh yes Lord, I was asked to go along with the delegation to be a interpreter, plus I had been at the Isles before. I could not say no to the king Lord, would have been rude of me." He speaks politely, like he is speaking to one of high status, which he is. Marcus looks comfortable and does not look like he is squirming at all.
" 'Lord Erek', or 'My lord' will do," the host clarifies. "I am the steward of Castle Equitaine," looking maybe a touch annoyed there at the form of address. Then tilting his head as he listens to Marcus’ explanation. A faint smile there at the comment about the King. "Indeed. So. What transpired there, in the Isles? I hear my family is in debt to you...?" And there Lord Erek raises an eyebrow, as his gaze comes to linger once again on his visitor.
Marcus looks to Erek and there is a smile on his lips. "Oh yes Lord Erek, my apologies. As to what happened on the Isles, many things happened at the Isles Lord Erek. As for your family been in debt to me, no, Lord Erek. I only did what would any commoner like myself would do in a situation as that. I only helped Sir Baldwin defend a friend of mine from ruffians. He is to be commended by the way, he fought bravely and took some wounds in defending us. So no debt needed in that regard, Lord Erek." Obviously that is the reason he was brought here. Still he sits, still he smiles and still he speaks like a man accustomed to speaking to superiors.
"I am glad to hear that," Erek replies, shooting Marcus a slightly bewildered look. "I was not aware you were involved in that incident, and it was not what I was referring to. No...", and there he shifts in his seat, his fingers moving to scratch his chin. "This was about my daughter, Livessa, rather..." Studying Marcus now most intently. "Do you have anything to say on the matter...?"
Marcus blinks slightly as the lord mentions it is not that incident but the incident with Livessa. Then he nods. "I see. I had been doing a bit of looking around regarding Rayne and the problems issuing with the death of a man in the Isles. I had noted that Lady Livessa was upset, thinking that Rayne was a witch. So I started to talk to her, figured she needed to talk to someone. She really had no real notion of what was happening but all of it may have been too much and she ran into the woods. She somehow evaded her guards and maidens and so, since I have skills as a tracker, I started to look for her. Eventually I did find her and she was within the river and I went in to bring her to safety. Lord Erek, she was upset and I did only what anyone would have done. Plus, like I said, she was not very happy and I convinced her to get on the ship and go home." He pauses a moment then. "Only way she go home is that I would come to talk to her as I had in the Isles. That was the only way to convince her as so." then Marcus stops, looks at the man and waits.
Do the eyes of the lord narrow a tad, now that Marcus comes to speak about the incident about Livessa's disappearance? There is a momentary twitch to the corners of his mouth, when he hears she ran off, and the low sound of inhaling is all that comes from the Ivounel for a moment. The frown grows however, and when Marcus is finished with his story, the steward's right hand is clenched into a fist. "I see," he remarks then, his voice of a forced calm that Marcus may very well perceive.
"So. When you say you had to convince her to get back, how exactly did you manage?", he inquires with a curious glance in Marcus direction. "And more importantly, why should she follow your advice, Master Marcus?"
Marcus looks to the man, obviously noting the reactions to the story he has told. Obviously he has no clue why he is getting upset but that is how his telling is. After the 'I see' comment is stated, it is when Marcus raises a brow, obviously curious but he is not going to go and ask. After Erek has calmed down a bit he asks another question and there comes a slight tilt to Marcus's head. "Well, at that time the Two Rivers had been kicked out of the Isles for a threat given and so I told her, it be safer to go home, leave with the ship. She had perceived that no one was listening to her, she felt alone. Though like I mentioned earlier, I was there to listen to her and give advice as best I could about the situation." Then thinking a bit further, he actually leans back a bit. "So the combination of been a friend and the urging she go back home. She would only get on the ship because she made me promise I at least come and visit, she may trust me or see's I am a friend, Lord Erek." After a moment’s time though. "Is there something amiss, something gone wrong?"
Calming maybe a bit more when he hears Marcus' explanation about bringing Livessa to reason, the look of irritation in Erek's gaze will intensify nonetheless. "I owe you our gratitude then, I suppose," the Ivounel remarks, not exactly unfriendly but in a way that shows he may have to have other talks to follow up this particular conversation with Marcus. And again, "I see." Another pause before he shakes his head. "I am glad you came on my request, yet I have to ask you to not pay any visits to my daughter from now on. She has acted most unreasonably, and in a way that I cannot approve of. That is taken care of and shall be none of your concern however." A shrug comes as reaction to the last question. "Nothing more amiss than it used to," Erek grumbles. "I assure you I have made some corrections. Most of them concern Livessa, and were most certainly overdue."
Marcus looks at Erek as he speaks, obviously the man is irritated and rather harsh in certain aspects. "I see, not visiting her may send her off the edge but I will listen to your words." Then he slowly looks around a bit but then looks back to the Lord. "Ah, well what happens if she runs again or tries to seek me out? I am trying to figure out what would be the best course of action, I am but a simple commoner, who hunts and guides others. I have nothing to show, except old scars." he mentions nothing about the owing of gratitude and then smiles. "Well, now it seems you had brought me here for that conversation. Is there anything else Lord Erek?" Marcus sits, patiently, watching the lord with perceptive eyes.
"I have," Erek replies with a pointed glance in Marcus's direction, "informed my daughter that her behaviour has been unacceptable. I have told her about possible consequences." He pauses, one of his impressive eye brows rising a touch. "’’If’’ she should be foolish enough to run off again, you do not need to bother to return her to me. She will no longer be welcome in this house. She will get no allowance of any kind, and will have to get along without any means of support. Because I am done with her then. If she needs to learn the hard way, so be it. But I am not willing to taint our name with a daughter that cares so little about our reputation, and puts her own petty concerns above those of this family." A line has appeared between his brows, and with no amusement present in his features it is clear, Lord Erek Ivounel is not joking here but means every word he says. "So... if she runs off, she will no longer be my daughter. No Ivounel. A plain Miss Livessa, who will have to live with all the consequences of her irresponsible and childish conduct. Have I made myself clear?"
Then leaning back again in his chair, Lord Erek will incline his head. "I hear Livessa has recommended you to the King for saving her from this perilous situation. I thank you for answering my questions regarding the matter. And I will support you there, if His Royal Highness may wish to hear my opinion. And yes. That will be all, Master Marcus." A dismissive gesture of his hand signaling the commoner he may leave.
Marcus looks to the man and listens to his words. Not much he can do or say once a man like Erek has made up his mind. "You have made your word perfectly clear Lord Erek. I am sure she has heard these words from you already. So she should not be running away, if it's for her own good, She has no clue how hard it is to live as a commoner." Then at the mention of the king: "Oh, I had no clue the king wanted to speak to me. I best head over as soon as possible and thank you." He stands up then and gives a bow to the man. "If there is anything I can do at any time, please do send for me, if not, thank you for your time Lord Erek." Then if the man speaks, he will wait, once he is done, he will turn and leave. Then make plans to go and visit the king.
No further words will come from Lord Erek as all has already been said. A light incline of the head is all that is offered in goodbye to the commoner, as his eyes follow him on his way out, with a rather pensive expression.
