Biography
|
Ysmay is the youngest child of the late Duke Laszlo and his wife Lady Fayme nee Lenouvi. It was Lady Fayme's idea to give her youngest child to the Gods. Afterall, they had numerous children before Ysmay, and Felgurna could only smile brighter on Granville if one of their daughters was given into her service. When Ysmay was eight, old enough to not be a burden yet young enough to forget her previously comfortable life, she was given over to the Servants of Felgurna.
Until the age of twelve Ysmay assisted the healers in the temple. She did menial tasks such as scrubbing the floors and rolling bandages, but she also learned how to tend to wounds. On her fifth anniversary of joining the Servants of Felgurna she decided that she would apprentice as a midwife, and served under one of her elders in the order by the name of Meg. Under Meg's tutelage Ysmay would learn how to tend to women with child, easing their pain with herbs and doing her best to keep both mother and child alive. By eighteen she was given a posting in a village that was on her families' land, and tended to the expectant mothers in the area until the troubles started.
It was during the peasant revolts that Ysmay returned to Castle Whitstock for her families' protection. Despite having attended the births of the villager's children for several years she was not spared their wrath when the destruction of Felgurna's shrines began. She arrived at the castle just as her father took ill, and watched a man she barely remembered or knew succumb. When the plague struck she tended to her ill siblings, all virtual strangers to her. Yet, their deaths struck her more deeply than she had expected. She mourned never having the opportunity to know her family.
When the Gods were outlawed Ysmay was left in an interesting predicament. It may have been acceptable for a young noblewoman to serve the Gods, but to dirty her hands like a commoner without divine inspiration seemed uncouth. And so she became Lady Ysmay Istivean again. A former Servant of Felgurna and well past twenty it is doubtful that many men would want her. So, she has come under the protection of her elder brother, Duke Solinus Istivean. As she is likely to be a spinster the rest of her life, and in need of her brother's charity and goodwill, she does her best to make herself useful to him.

Personality and Appearance
|
A petite woman in her twenties, Ysmay has fair colored skin that has a tendency to run pale, reddish brown hair that hangs in loose curls, and light blue eyes that show a spark of intelligence. Her face is heart-shaped with a faint cleft in her chin and she has a high forehead that seems to emphasize the largeness of her blue eyes giving her a wide-eyed, almost innocent look. She generally dresses in practical woolen dresses in somber colors, and more often than not her hair is hidden under a clean white linen veil.
