The Old Empire

To the west of the Kingdom of Estoria within the Unknown World there once was a power larger then any other known. Its original name has been lost to time, and only the Spelunca Empire, the Caesitas, the Ningo, and the Ni'Ac, know of it today. Which is due to the fact they are all descended from it in one way or another.

Location and Origins

This empire once filled the area west of Estoria, north of the lands of the Western Tribes, and east of the Kingdom of the Two Rivers, consisting of a pair of continents close to each other that is roughly the size of the kingdoms of Estoria and the Two Rivers combined. Also including multiple small, offshore islands. Originating on a large, broad peninsula on the west coast of the continent was the city of Cunabula. According to the faith of the Old Gods, as it is known today, the gods created existence and the first humans came into being at the same moment.

Hundreds of humans came into being, known as the Proauctors. The Proauctors came into existence with all the knowledge needed to create civilization. Forming from nothing at the junction of three rivers, this would be their capital. The city of Cunabula was the result. Being the most advanced people in the West these people quickly grew in power, expanding and claiming new lands.

The Fall

Conquering or assimilating any others they encountered the Old Empire stretched over their lands in a few centuries. By this time the Empire was easily identifiable by its cities of gleaming white marble. The Empire even made contact with Felaguria and started to establish trade agreements to supplement their supplies of marble. Roughly five years later expeditions were sent out to establish footholds of colonization in the east and south, the Empire was then struck by a great plague. These colonization attempts were primarily concerned with gathering additional resources for the Empire, primarily marble.

The plague spread throughout the Empire quickly and killed two thirds of the Empire’s population. What remained suffered famine from the lack of population needed to harvest enough food for those that remained. Between the famine and the revolting slaves of the Empire few were left. The plague lasted ten years and the famine and revolts another year after that. In the aftermath of the Fall four powers rose.

In the heartland of the Old Empire arose the Spelunca Empire, those survivors who wished to regain what was lost from the Old Empire and return it to the world. This is why they named themselves the New Empire. Second are the Nation of Caesitas. The Caesitas were a religious sect within the new Empire which broke away from the Spelunca after eight years to find their own place in the world. Settling in the mountains ranges of the southern continent. Third are the Nation of Ningo, originally colonists from the Old Empire. The Ningo escaped the affects of the plague and passed further east into the lands north of the Kingdom of the Two Rivers.

Finally are the descendants of the slaves of the Old Empire that traveled south to the lands west of the Kingdom of the Golden Lion as the workforce for the colonists that traveled there. These people would come to mix into the other Western Tribes and became the people known as the Ni’Ac, also called ‘the Builders’. Their history as slaves have made them extremely territorial and aggressive towards any ‘civilized people’ they encounter. The Ni’Ac have grown since then and border on a kingdom themselves.
