HISTORY
|
This House always had all the horses and ships of the Kingdom in their hands. Moreover, they always were touched less by all the problems that pained the rest of the Kingdom, they suffered considerably less from the famine and the plague. Likely, the geographical stance helped a lot. Moreover, there is a rumor that horses have had their share in saving the people from the plague, because most of the cavalry where not affected by the bacillus.
This family is very honourable, self-confident and proud, as it sees itself as the second house in the Kingdom after the King, because of their cavalry and navy the kingdom's power relies on. House Lenouvi is the main force in battling pirates and barbarians that threaten the land from the sea. There is even a rumor that two members of the family managed to get to the Unknown World and back.
House Lenouvi is quite selective as to which matches they will agree, in regards of marriage. In their last generation, three sisters of the Duke were married to leaders of the other Houses, two of them to Dukes and one even to a King.
Despite their claim to being an elite, a stain exists on the name of Lenouvi. The stain of bastardy. The grandfather to the current Duke, Duke Elias Lenouvi had an affair with a commoner woman before he got married, and a bastard was born but raised within the castle. His family name reversed to Ivounel due to the bastard status, this illegitimate son called Maric managed to rise to one of the best knights in the Duchy of Athereyne and founded what is today called the 'bastard branch' of House Lenouvi. His wife would be a proper noble lady of the House of Istivean even. Still, the scions of this branch are considered of lesser standing than the others, of course.

PLACES OF NOTE
|
The Harbor of Athereyne is the heart of the duchy, located in the city of Equis on the southern coast of the continent. It is frequented not only by a great number of ships carrying goods from the Kingdoms of the Golden Lion and the Isles, but also hosting the impressive war ships of the Kingdom of the Two Rivers, and the docks are always resounding from the activity as business is flourishing indeed.
To the northeast of Equis a road leads to the seat of House Lenouvi, Castle Equitaine, a proud fortification that overlooks the region from a majestic slope at the foot of the Fangs.
The Fangs of Athereyne, named after a giant wolf of a legend is a mountain range that covers all of the east of Athereyne.
To the west and northwest are seemingly endless grasslands offering plenty of nourishment for the many horses that are bred in these lands and are brought up and trained for the Royal Cavalry.
