Summary: Lord Jarvis Bainsworth speaks with Marcus about his plans to move into the Ningo settlement of Unitas. | |||||||
|
A few days after the king had encountered Lady Aeryn and Master Marcus in the gardens of the castle, word had been sent to the commoner man, that a certain Lord Jarvis Bainsworth wished to see him at the castle. Marcus has had dealings with this man before. Bainsworth had been in responsible for the small group that had been sent up north some months ago. He was known to be an advisor to the king. If Marcus should follow the call, he will find Lord Jarvis sitting at his desk, reading some papers of importance that pile up before him. he will lean back in his seat when Marcus enters, a ghost of a smile tugging at his lips when his pale grey eyes study the commoner. "Splendid. Mastr Marcus. I am glad you could find the time to come by." Polite words, uttered while those eyes study the man attentively. "Pray, have a seat." He gestures towards a chair opposite of him. "How have you been?"
Marcus wears a warm cloak now, one that seems to be thick and heavy. Not made by Two Rivers hands but perhaps that of Ningo as a gift perhaps. " Lord Bainsworth, it is once again a pleasssure to see you after all these months. I got the call as I was coming into town, it was perfect timing." he approuches and stands, not sitting but he waits. " The King mentioend that you may be requiring some help or perhaps a service that I am able to use my talents for." Now he speaks calmly, relaxed in the sense that he knows he may be sent to do soem odd thing here or another. GAME: Save complete.
Bainsworth raises his brows when Marcus remains standing. "The king mentioned to me," he counters, "that you plan to settle in Unitas. Is that the truth?" Inquired in a calm tone, while Lord Jarvis's gaze continues to linger on the man with a slightly intrigued sparkle within them. He shifts in his seat and reaches for a goblet of wine that sits there beside the pile of papers on the table.
Marcus remains standing since he was not asked to sit and so as the man speaks to him about settleling in Unitas Marcus raises a brow. " Oh yes, I mentioned to The King that I was hoping to speak to their leader about settleling in Unitas. Well at least have a home where I can go and stay. I mean to travel their lands and get to knwo them, they seem and interesting people. I beleave the more we know of them, the better we may get along or understand them. I have already spoken about been a translator to a Lady Aeryn, she like to learn the Ningo spoken language." he may as well tell him that he has agreed to teach soemone the basics of Ningo before any task, unless it is urgent.
Indeed, Lord Jarvis asked him to sit down when Marcus entered. It was not an order however, just an offer. Even though it is a tad tiring to keep looking up at the man's face. But Bainsworth doesn't bother too much, as his attention is soon drawn to what Marcus tells him. "The more we know of them," he echoes in agreement after a moment, "aye, I have thought about something like that." The information about Lady Aeryn has him raise a brow, but then he nods. "Yes, this is another good idea, I would think." His finger moves to tap his chin lightly, as he ponders how to continue. "You have served us before, Master Marcus. And you knowledge of the Ningo language is a valuable asset. Would you think it possible to pass us some of that knowledge you gain...? As we..." and here a faint smirk appears on his usually so rational features, "we seek to understand our neighbours as they seek to understand us. You are aware there are Ningo guests currently staying at the castle. The king will agree with me that is time to give them the possibility to return the hospitality we are offering them. Meaning..." that smirk deepens, "that we will encourage some of our people to settle at Unitas, to keep that information flowing. Information that is vital for the mutual understanding of our cultures." It seems the Master of Information is amused by his own explanation, a humor he seeks to share with Marcus.
Marcus notes that this may take a bit longer than he had anticipated and so he takes a seat. " If I may." of course he was asked but now he need to think. He thinks well on his feet but here he has the luxury to sit and relax as he does so. Once he settles in a bit and looks at the man he nods. " I beleave I may be able to come to and agreement with the Ningo's leader abotu settleling down in Unitus. It seems I have left a impression on the Ningo people as I have defeated a huge cat alone and with no other help to do so. They say it is a rare feet to do so alone and yet one not of their culture." he motions to the cloak that he has now. " That was made for me from the creatures hide, a gift from them and a few other items from the creature, also a gift." this he tells the man infront of him, to show that he has a very good chance of settleling in Unitus. " As for my knowing them, understandign them, that was what I was intending to do and bring it back here to further explain them to us and their culture." he sists up a bit more . " My intentions are to go further into their lands and learn more, see what they may have that may benefit both kingdoms." there is a chuckle then as he leans back and looks to him. " I can gather information about them and brign it back or send it back if you desire. My question been, what kind of information are we talking about. "
Pale grey eyes shift from Marcus's face to the impressive cloak and Bainsworth nods. "I have heard you have earned their respect," he says, a light twitch upwards there at the corners of his lips when Marcus finally lowers himself onto the offered seat. "And I am glad to hear this has been your plan all along, to provide us with information. As for what kind of information... Let us say, all kinds would be most welcome. Those kinds that are more easily accessible, as well as those that they may judge to be more sensitive. Information," and here he leans foward, pale grey eyes locking with those of the commoner, "that may differ from the official version they are giving us. I assure you, any efforts on your part will be rewarded, depending on the sensitivity of the information and how much effort it took to acquire it." A sip of the wine is taken, before Bainsworth deposits the goblet on the table. "Would such a task be something you would consider...?", he asks, as he leans back again in his chair, assessing Marcus with attentive curiosity.
So there it is, the question, the sensitivity of it all, information that they require that is not given truthfully. There is a hint of excitement in his eyes, a twitch and perhaps even a slight smile. So Marcus looks to the man, looks around a bit and then finaly looks back him again. " I may be able to swing such a task." then he leans forwards to whisper a bit to the man. " If you send me to do this, I will do it my way and I may do it in ways that some or even all of you may find treasonous. Though know that I do this because it excites me and I liek a challenge. I just hope you come to understand, that to get sensitive information, I may have to do things I never thought I may have to do, would this be acceptable?" now he leans back and looks to the man again, watching him for anything in his facial feature of doubt or hesitation.
The excitement of Marcus is certainly shared by Lord Jarvis. He leans a bit closer to catch those whispered words, his smile intensifying as he nods. "Yes, it is acceptable! And of course. I understand. I am glad to find your reply to meet my expectations, and my assessment of you.", he replies in a low murmur. "What kind of things, if I may ask," Bainsworth adds then after a moment. This obviously asked more out of curiosity than because he deems it a vital question.
As Marcus looks at the man, he notes that this man truly gets Marcus, well at least some of it, not all of it, even himself he seems not to understand things until they happen. "So, I believe we have come to and agreement, I will of course leave it to you as to what I send down and what payment I will receive for the information." though what this man is asking Marcus to do is dangerous, extreamly dangerous to some but how many would enjoy it. " As for what, that I am not sure of as of yet. Though I will say, that I may have a way in to finding more information than a common folk. I still mean to speak to their leader as he had further interest in me as a translator. So, once I do speak to the man, I may be able to make a deal that will make it a little easier to get information but I will say, it may not look good towards me." that is all he can say for now, so much to do and so much to plan. Things are moving to what he himself has planned, in the end it may be mroe beneficial for him than he had realized before hand. " At this time, the best you do not know, the better."
"You have been paid well for your contributions to the mission to the North," Bainsworth states matter-of-factly. "You will not find the payment lacking. As for sending information... we will have a few men stationed there at Unitas. I am sure we can think of a way that you may pass information to them and vice versa. But so far I'd suggest to keep these messages to the most necessary. To avoid arousing suspicion with our friends of the Ningo."
Marcus nods and smiles, showing white teeth as he does. " Oh yes, most definitely well, I was not saying the payment was not enough, more as that I trust you enough in the proper payments in this task." at the mention of men stationed and certain things passed on, he smiles and nods. " If I have need of them I will sue them but I am sure I could even deliver it myself. I believe thigns will turn out better than expected." then he stands up and bows to him. " Since we have come to and arrangement, I will seek and audiance with the Patrician to ask permission to stay within Unitus. I may even ask the Ningo to build a home in their style, so to show I am willing to learn their customs and how they are, in respect of their culture." There is that twinkle in his eyes then , that smile. " If we are done, I will make my leave." he bows his head then to the man and waits, waits to be dimissed.
"We are, for now," Bainsworth assures, dismissing Marcus with an incline of his head. "I believe we shall speak again, before you leave for Unitas." His pale grey eyes follow the man with their gaze as he leaves, the sparkle within them, excited and intrigued.
