Where: Tower's Room - Castle of the White Dove
Room Desc: This is a very simple room tucked away in the Tower of of the Castle of the White Dove, almost at the top of the tower. Simply decorated with a small bed, a few chairs, a table, and a foot locker, some effort has been made to provide a degree of comfort and pleasure but not too much. Akin to what one might expect in the home of a poorer noble, this room is always locked and when in use is guarded by two individuals who dont appear to be much for conversation. At least there are some flowers and paintings to add some color and life to the room.

There are shutters to close the glassless window so the occupant, when there is one, can have some protection against the elements, yet even when the shutters are open a metal framework leaves the opening too small for anyone to crawl out of, though why would anyone want to crawl out of the window that is nearly at the top of a tower anyway?

It's a late evening and the sun is almost hidden under the edge of the world. The streets become a bit more quiet, but here, in the Tower, the pingeons never lets the silence to come. They are flying all around the top of the tower. Some are comming back with messages, some are leaving with one, some just curiously sits on the sills and stares inside the Tower's room, where a young former princess is imprisoned for now.

The guard opens the door widely and announces, "The Queen Abigaile Onimus and Mistress of Whispers Adara Zorich!"

The Queen steps inside the room first. However, she even does not look at Madalyn. The woman just moves to take a seat on the chair. She is wearing very long black gown, which was covering the Queen's body just once before - during the burial of her husband Matyas. Abegayle fixes her gaze on one of the pingeons for now.

Following behind the Queen is Lady Adara Zorich. Once fully within the room and guards close the door behind them she turns her gray eyes to Madalyn and nods simply and asks, “On this matter I would prefer not to waste too much time with pleasantries. I believe the most pressing question would be why you went all the way to the Kingdom of the Two Rivers only to refuse the betrothal to the king.” in a soft, calm tone. After a brief pause to look over the young woman she finally asks, “Perhaps you would like to give your reasons for the refusal of a good match.” Adara speaks as the queen is silent, perhaps she is speaking the will of the queen, perhaps she is speaking as the Mistress of Whispers, or perhaps simply as a neutral party. Whatever the case for now she is the one speaking and her posture is what is proper enough, she keeps a respectful distance from both the queen and ‘princess’, though her tone remains soft and calm for the time being.

Previously seated, Madalyn rises when the two women enter. “As you wish,” Madalyn replies, bowing her head slightly before begining. “I went to Two Rivers because Royal Mother Nimoria told me that it was the will of Onimoria that I do so, in spite of my own feelings on the matter. I spent the journey hoping that I was wrong, that the king would be someone I could fall for, but such was not the case – he was a father, not a lover. I could not believe that Onimoria would force me to do something that felt so wrong. Why make me as I am only to torment me? So, when the king asked how I felt about the match, I told him the truth that I did not wish to marry him.”

The Queen does not look at Madalyn. She does not speak at all too. Her gaze is just stabbed at the sky seen through the window.

Adara nods and asks, “You believe such feelings are unique only to you? Marrying for love is not the fate for nobility, much less royalty. That does not mean love cannot come to such matches, but love is what the common people marry for not nobility and especially not royalty. If you seek love then you marry then work towards that end. I felt nothing for my own husband when I married him when I was around the same age as yourself, yet today there is love in our marriage. Yet you gave no effort to those ends, you went on the belief that love would be there the moment you saw each other. This is a foolish notion child.”

Her voice remains calm but there is disapproval, not unlike a mother’s disapproval in her tone, but then anyone who knows anything about Adara knows she has two daughters herself. After a few moments she continues, “King Barret treated me as an honored guest for two to three years during the plague that kept me from my family longer then planned. I have no doubt he had me treated well to maintain positive diplomatic relations as I was there as an emissary of the Queen. He did not have to treat me as well as he did, and for that reason I would consider him a kind enough sort he would have treated you very well as his wife.” Taking another breath she continues, “Also the fact I planted the seeds of doubt in his mind that led him to outlaw his kingdom’s heathen gods. A marriage to you means that with your love and gentleness you might have been able to get him to adopt the faith of the Onimoria, our faith held as the official religion of two kingdoms, alsospreading the faith to the mainland. This was a wonderous opportunity that you have destroyed almost all chances of. How do you know THAT was not what the Patrons sought when the match between the king and yourself was made?” trailing off as though to allow that to sink in. It might be that is what the patrons wanted all along, or it might just be the desires of some random noble who happens to be a symaster. Or it could be a simple ‘what if’.

Madalyn winces at the rebuke. “He was indeed very kind, like a father, willing to forgive my every fault, even to the point of sheltering me from … the Queen’s wrath.” She almost makes the mistake of saying mother. “That does not mean that I could ever love him as a wife shoul love her husband. As for the patron’s will. If this were truly Onimoria’s will, why would she send me to do it? Why would it feel so wrong … so forced … “ She trails off with a sad look in her eyes. “The best I could do was come back and try to salvage what I could. I am not afraid of punishment, Onimoria was willing to give up her place as a patron for the man she loved, so I can pay for the whims of my own heart as well, but I could not let either the people of Two Rivers or the Isles suffer for me. I made sure that King Barret is still willing to work out an alliance, before I left. Hopefully, there will still be peace and cooperation, in spite of me.”

The Queen’s eyebrow jumps up briefly, when she hears the fact, that the King of another Kingdom would have defended the traitor of the Isle of the Kingdom. However, she still remains quiet. Though, both other women can notice, how nervously the Queen is chewing on her lip, while her hands try to rub the belly gently, which became slightly more visible now, as if that should calm Abegayle down.

Adara nods to Madalyn, if she notices the Queen’s reaction she gives no outward sign of it as she asks, “So you wish to sacrifice as Onimoria did to gain the love you long for? What do you say about the fact Onimoria gave up her love and married a man she didn’t love in order to create our kingdom? What do you say to the fact she died when Lotingus finally joined her in the mortal realm and married one he didn’t love for our kingdom as well? What do you say to the fact they did not come together until after they had died and their destinies changed as a reward for their selfless sacrifice of doing what was needed to create our kingdom, and not following their hearts?” in the same calm tone. After a pause to let those questions sink in, and giving Madalyn some time to think it over Adara then adds, “You placed your personal hopes and desires above your destiny. You were meant to be the catalyst that would unite all the kingdoms into one, yet your selfish actions have harmed that destiny, not aided it. The Patrons reward those that follow their destiny most, yet you spat in the face of your destiny, and you believe you should be rewarded with the love you longed for? I can only guess at the will of the Patrons, though in their place I would deprive you of love for the rest of your days and beyond for defying your destiny in such a large way. My opinion means little as I am not an Oni, much less one of the Fourth, or for that matter even the Queen who has the power to speak with the Patrons directly. What have you to say now?” in the same calm tone. Her voice carries no signs of anger, but there is disappointment, and perhaps a bit of regret in her words.

“It is not a sacrifice when it is forced upon them. They did not choose to come here. They were torn apart. I have no doubt that had they both entered the world at the same time, they would have chosen each other regardless of our kingdom,” Madalyn answered defiantly, before taking a moment to calm herself. “Who is to say what my destiny is or was or will be? Maybe I was supposed to turn from marriage and that is why it felt so wrong to me. Maybe I was supposed to stay in Two Rivers as King Barret’s ward. All I can do is listen to my heart and follow where it leads me. Maybe love awaits me or maybe it doesn’t, but if I give up on it, then I can never find it.”

The Queen frowns slightly and looks at Madalyn for the first time, when she hears girl's philosophy about her destiny. The woman does not turn her gaze away from Madalyn's eyes. She stands up and walks close to the former princess.

The Queen raises her hand and if Madalyn won't move away, she will squeeze girl's chin, forcing her to look straight at the Queen, "Why you came back if you want that old and lost King to be your true father? Why you came back if maybe your destiny was to live there?" This is the moment when the Queen will release the girl, if she had the chance to squeeze her chin.

"Don't answer. I know why... You are a pampered child, who never faced death, who never saw darkness, who grew up so selfish, that believe, that she can sell her own country for a true love... It is my fault, that I grow up you as a daughter who has no shame to say for her own mother, that she prefers to have a stranger as her father... I should..."

Tears show up in Abegayles features, even if she tries to keep a graceful stance of the Queen. The woman starts trembling slightly. She turns away from Madalyn and her hand slides to her belly. The nervous woman frowns in pain now and grows quiet for a moment. It takes some time before she inhales and continues, "You should get at least ten... But even that won't change you... you just can't grow up... you can't even respect Marguerite, who is the Patron of each of our destiny... You speak badly of our Patrons, your family, home..." the Queen takes a seat again. This time a bit harder, frowning and squeezing the fabric of her gown on her belly as if she is in pain. She grows quiet again, her features are even more sad and dark.

Adara watches the Queen silently as she finally speaks, once she is done she looks to Madalyn and says, “You speak as a child who does not wish to hear anything you don’t agree with. Onimoria might have been stripped of power and sent to the mortal realm as punishment, but she also broke the primary law of the Patrons, and so was punished for it. Yet she went on to learn her lesson and placed others above herself when she created our kingdom and married a man she didn’t love to ensure that kingdom would endure.” her voice still calm, calmer then the Queen’s for certain, yet there is clearly disapproving judgement in her tone. “Lotingus however made a choice to keep his powers in exile instead of joining his love in the mortal world. It was ten years as the other Patrons fought and caused suffering before he finally found the time to return to his love, and it was too late. Your actions has doomed us to wait over ten years to correct the suffering you have caused. You however are not a Patron, as to who is to say what your destiny is?”

Taking a quick breath Adara continues, “The Queen is correct, you give a slap in the face to the Patron Marguerite when you say such words. Allow me to remind you, she is the Patron of Fate and Destiny itself, and used those powers to write a new destiny for the lovers you claim to admire so much. Yet you deny her existance, and you also deny the power of the ring of Onimoria, the very ring she wore as a Patron and the very ring that has been worn by every Queen since her time including the one in this very room now. Is it that you both deny the powers of Marguerite and also call one of the oldest truths of our faith a lie? After all is it not the very Ring of Onimoria that allows the Queen and every queen before and after her to speak with the three Patrons directly? Who is it that says what your destiny is? The Patron Marguerite, how do we know this? The Queen can speak with her directly and tell us. You however don’t believe any of this by your own words do you? Should we be concerned you follow the Cult of Asmenachia?” Whether she is honestly suggesting the former princess is a member of the Cult, or simply trying to make her understand her words are bordering on blasphemy is anyone’s guess.

Madalyn starts to reach for her mother, but restrains herself, looking down at the floor of room. “I did not wish him to be my father any more than my lover. I have a home and family here that I would not trade for any other. I heard the pain that I had you in your speach, and knew that I had to come and beg forgiveness. Not out of hope of restoration, but so that you knew that it wasn’t out of malice for you that this happened. You may not claim me as a daughter anymore, but I will always lov eyou as my mother,” she says, trying to console the pain on her mothers face.

With that said, Madalyn pauses to take collect her thoughts before continuing. “We are not slaves to the patrons, not game pieces that they move as they please. If we were, they would merely tell each of us our appointed tasks and we would see them done without choice or thought. I do not doubt that they spoke to the queen, nor do I doubt their power. What I doubt is that their words carry only the meaning of command. They might well have set me on this task, knowing I would fail, so that a more fitting heir could take the throne, because you are right. I am childish and selfish – truly unfit to be queen. Now, I will not be, and your majesty will have another daughter that will be what I could not.”

The Queen bites her lip firmly, when she hears her daughter's thoughts. The woman swallows a gulp of bitterness and sighs, lowering her head. The dark long and tress black hair flops down too, hidding her features. For a moment it may look like the Queen becomes even more pale than snow will ever be. Her hand on her belly shivers slightly.

Then she stays in silence. For a moment, it may look like she is not even breathing. However, the Queen raises her head up and speaks in a whisper, "You won't leave this room for as long as I think it is needed. Nobody will be allowed to visit you, except me, lady Adara and the Fourth..."

Abegayle inhales deeply. It is hard for her to breath as if pain caused by her daughter is strangling her right now. It takes a few more minutes for the Queen to continue, "I will give you the last chance to become my daughter again. But you are right, you are not suited to be the Queen," her hand flops across the belly to Abegayle's lap, "The Fourth will come to speak with you, to make sure, that you were just a silly girl, who is not ruled by the banished patrons. I will find you another husband. You will marry him and you both will get one of my islands to control or if the husband will be foreigner, you will work there sa our whisper. You will be able to try to get your good name from there... And you will finaly learn, what the life is..."

Then the Queen tries to stand up. However, she stagger a little bit and flops down on the chair, "Lady Adara... She will make sure, that from now on you will follow our laws and traditions. You need to learn something... it is enough for you to be just a princess, who just dreams about her true love. So, I hope that lady Adara will agree to take you in as her apprentice." The Queen glances at the other woman, adding, "In case I will decide that you should marry a foreigner."

Then she looks at her daughter, "And I will come to speak with you, Madalyn, privately... tomorrow..."

Adara looks to the Queen with clear concern at her words and actions and simply nods in regards to the Queen’s words to her. She then looks to Madalyn and says, “Destiny is there, it is true we can choose to deny it as you have, but such is not a simple matter of defying fate it is a matter of trusting the Patrons know what is best for us then we ourselves know. Not all of us have a destiny, as not all of us are deserving of one. Those of royal blood are a different matter, such blood can change nations, create them, bring an end to them. Such things should not be made a mockery of as you have done. You at least understand you aren’t deserving of ruling, though that fate would have laid on your children if you had them more then on you.” Moving to the Queen’s side as though to make sure she is okay after the failed attempt to stand, she looks back to Madalyn and says, “Know this, I will attempt to teach you the ways of a Whisper as it would best suit your new position. That said do not expect gentle treatment, the life of a Whisper is not an easy one, and much will rely on you. Also know that our lives are not our’s alone. Whether royal blood or noble blood, we serve the realm not ourselves. Do you think I loved or even liked my husband when I first met him? Of course not, but it was the sacrifice I made for the Kingdom of the Isles for I love this Kingdom and its faith and wish to see it prosper and would do anything to those ends. If you are respectful and do your best to learn and serve you will find your time learning from me easier, if not then you will have a taste of suffering few princesses know. The Queen’s judgement is her own, and the Patrons may guide her as they believe best, my judgements however are centered in the world of mortals and logic, you will come to serve the realm or you will face their wrath more then mine.” in a calm, though serious tone showing she will tolerate no half-measures or unreasonable complaints. Yet also that if one’s best is put forward then a reasonable and kind responce may be expected.

She then turns back to the Queen and offers her a hand up asking, “If I may Your Majesty.” as though formally asking permission to not only touch the Queen but also help her to her feet, and to provide a steady support if needed.

Madalyn bows her head deferentially as her fate is explained to her. “I will do my best to learn,” she assures them both, looking back up, her face is full of worry, when her mother fails to rise easily on her own. She clearly wants to help, but doubts such help would even be wanted.

"Very well..." The Queen states, straightening and getting her grace of the leader back. She does not take the help from lady Adara. The woman stands up herself.

She walks closer to the heavy doors of the room and knocks twice. Two guardsmen open the door. The handmaiden is standing in the passage. She runs closer to the Queen all worried, but Abegayle just waves all annoyed for the other woman to retreat.

Then the Queen leaves.

Adara gives the Queen space when her offer is dismissed, and watches Abegayle depart. Once sure the queen is okay she looks back to Madalyn and says, “I will return when it is time to start. We’ll see if you fare any better there, let us hope so.” in a calm, serious tone as she too moves to leave.
