Summary: Marcus pays a visit to Woodwatch within Woriscant to see Rayne. | |||||||
|
Slider has had some time to travel, talk, listen and speak to others and managed to spend a whole day to help out Rayne. He still has no clue as to why he is helping her but he will get something, well he hopes at least. So back to Raynes place and he hopes she is there or he came all the way here to do pretty much nothing. So now Slider is in his usual travellign attire, all in his dark and green outfit and his weapons at the ready. Moving through the trees and eventualy coming up to see her small little home. Of course he says nothing and walks on up to the front to see if she is around, if not he will go inside.
With it being the middle of the afternoon, Rayne is certainly outside her home, tending to some of the various plants that surround the small house. Dressed in simple trousers and a loose fitting blouse, the woman is on her knees pulling at a plant and being careful in doing so. The leaves the plucks are placed on a small piece of burlap that has likely seen it's better days. Though she takes note how there is a sort of silence which befalls the arrival of a person who is not quite known out in the woods. Certain birds and fawns making their quick escape to a would-be assailant. This causes her to look up and over, and upon seeing Marcus, she offers the man a kind smile. "Marcus! Wonderful to see you. How have you been?"
Marcus looks at Rayne and then smiles, noting she is in a much happier mood at the moment, which is good to see. Now he moves a bit closer and takes a seat where there may be a stump or a piece of log. " I have been busy but good, no one has tried to kill me and I have not killed anyone yet, all is good." then he takes a small flask with water and takes a drink from it. Now he tilts his head towards her. " How have you been, it has been a few days since last I seen you, you seem happier."
"Well, there is always that. It is a good day when a man is not killed, nor has to kill another." Rayne remarks simply, offering a smile still as she sits back on her calves, lifting an arm to wipe sweat off her brow. "I've been well. Went to Edris' market for a couple days, sold some wares, I need to go back within a fortnight to check on a couple of patients." Offering that much before folding the piece of burlap around the leaves she had gathered. Her happiness is from that, and from a chance meeting, but she would not detail such a thing.
Marcus nods and then goes back to looking around and then shakes his head. " I still do not understand how you can live out here, alone, no one else around." then he shrugs and yawns a bit. " So, you have something I can have to eat. It was a trek and I am a bit hungry." he is hungry. Finaly he grins. " I am to guess you go to the market often?"
Rayne shrugs. "Once a week I try to go..." Standing then, picking those leaves up with her, she nods to Marcus. "I've got some rabbit roasting, should be done by now. Come. You deserve a good meal." Turning to head into her home then, leaving the door open for Marcus to follow her in. "I am not sure how many ways I can explain that I simply like living out here, alone, with no one around. It hardly bothers me."
Marcus nods and tehn grins with that smile." That sounds great actualy." he sits up then and walks inside after her. Now he chuckles lightly. "Alright, I will not bother you with it then but things change, you may not be here all your life, how can you adapt?" then he takes a seat at her table, removing his cloak and weapons first and hangs them on the chair.
Rayne moves to the fire and turns the rabbit a few more times before taking it off the spit to set on a side counter. Working on making two plates of rabbit and vegetables, with some bread and cheese on the side as well. Bringing both plates to the table, she also sets two glasses and a pitcher of wine down. "I don't see why I wouldn't be here all my life. What hope is there for commoners like us who make their lives simple? I exist out here, and nothing will change that. Besides...I go to town often enough, get my fill of people, and then come back home. It's not that bad." Sitting across from Marcus then.
Marcus waits patiently and once they are sitting down he takes a drink from the glass and then looks back to the food and starts to eat like he has not eaten in days. " There is always a chance, a chance to make ourselves better, we can only go up, since we are pretty close to teh bottom." then starts to eat a bit of the rabbit.
Rayne would just give a shrug of her shoulders, taking note of how Marcus seems to eat the food before him. "Have you not been keeping yourself fed, Marcus? You know that's not the best way to live out there. I figured someone who could survive like you would know such things." A smirk, a jab of sorts, but in a sort of teasing fashion. She pulls off a bit of rabbit for herself, consuming it slowly.
Marcus looks to Rayne a bit and then chuckles. " Well, I do eat enough but never to much, enough to get me three to four hours before I have to eat again. Plus I knew I was coming here and you usualy have food abouts." then he winks and chuckles, eating like he has done, nothing he needs to look proper too here. " So, have you seen Sir Baldwin as of late?" just out of no where.
Rayne gives a soft chuckle. "Mostly because I tend to feed some of the animal life that comes around. A few times I'll get wayward travelers who pass through and need a meal. I suppose there is always something being cooked here, food or otherwise." A laugh, mostly at herself, before she gives a blink and glances to Marcus. "For the sake of full honesty, yes, I saw him in the village of Equis at market. Formally, I've not seen him at all...essentially I've been...forbidden...to see him." She would say that much before reaching for her wine to take a drink.
Slider listens to Rayne and then after a few moments nods and then drinks a bit of the wine himself. Now leaning back he looks at her for a bir of time, licking his fingers as he does. " Your so nice to people and you say you like your small little place." Then hearing her answer to his question he smiles and drinks a bit more wine. "So, tell me, what would happen if you happen to move, I mean for some odd means to move into a city. How would you feel then, likely then you see him more often, though knowing his father, that would not make him to eb a good son." then drinking a bit more . " So, has Baldwin even considered givign up his title and just coming out to live with you here? I know that his father has told Livessa if she runs away again, she loses everything and all and live like all others who are poor, would you think the same thing with Baldwin?"
Rayne pulls off a bit more of the rabbit meat, and then consumes a bit of the vegetables while listening to Marcus speak. "Liking my small place here doesn't make me hate people. I just like living out here." Saying that much before listening to Marcus speak further. "I suppose if I really wanted to...or if I had a reason... I guess that should be reason enough, huh?" A smile curling her lips before she shakes her head. "Baldwin is too proud of his position, of the work he has put in to obtain such knighthood...he wishes to try and restore honor - or keep what little honor his family has." There is a shrug then. "I doubt... I think his adherence to duty above all else would...will...keep us apart." Saying that much more before she shrugs. "I hardly doubt his father would let him get away with such a thing, either."
Marcus looks at her and then chuckles. " Men and their honor, silly idea that was invented. Their honor is what makes the mblind and what needs to be needed in situations that require thought over action." he sighs and then leans forwards and drink a bit more wine. He looks to the floor then. " I beleave he is blind to his duty. What would that man do if you were accused by his father at been a witch? He has evidence that it be true that you are, let it be planted or not. Would he do as his duty tells him to or stand by yourside and die with you if need be?"
Rayne listens to all that Marcus has to say. Though she wasn't going to get into certain specifics now, and likely she would never unless things worked out a certain way. Still, if she faced peril, she knew (or at least had faith) that Baldwin would stand by her side just as he did on the Isles. "Perhaps. Still, I hold no fault to him for being held so strong by duty. He worked hard as a squire, harder still to retain his knighthood." Saying that much as she lifts her shoulders in a shrug once more. "I believe if his father wanted to accuse me of witchcraft, he would have had me seized when I was in his home. I really hate that ever got spread around about me...and I believe it is no longer a matter of importance."
Marcus shakes his head then. " I said if, not that you are. Though I can see that you would think he would be by your side, refusing, even after evidence is presented. So what would be his duty then, to his true knightly duty to protecting the land from witchcraft or to love to a woman that may in all likely hood be using him as a pawn." he stops and then shakes his head. " I am nto trying to accuse you, I am trying to let you see and maybe think on what the man you love is willing to do for duty. Do as told and destroy a woman he loves so accused or stand by her side and lose everything he worked hard for all his life?" Now leaning back and he closes his eyes then. " If you truly, beleave that he would stand by yourside, tell me but if there is any doubt, any doubt at all, maybe you should talk to him, find out for sure what he would do. Do nto listen to his words, listen to what he is saying and how he said it." then he reaches for a round tube within his cloaks pocket and sets it on the table, it has some length to it but it seems to be a solid piece of wood that may have been hollowed out to carry something within. "Promise me you will do as I ask." as he taps the wooden tube with his fingers.
Rayne sets her glass back onto the table as she listens to all that Marcus says. Turning it around in her head, and while she did not wish to believe Baldwin would choose his duty over his love there was always a certain chance. Still, she would not let doubt rule her, and after a moment she takes a breath and watches as Marcus sets something onto the table. "I believe, beyond doubt, that Baldwin would stand by my side. Though belief and certainty are two different things. I promise, Marcus, that should a chance be given and Baldwin and I are able to have a private conversation I will discuss such a thing with him." Her gaze meeting Marcus' own then, and there is a resolved certainty in her eyes. An ability to know that she speaks the truth and holds no will to defy the promise made. Curiosity gets the better of her then and she turns her gaze to the item placed on the table. "What's that?"
Slider looks ta her, noting the look to the tube but then looks back to her and watching her, listening to her and then eventually she stops with her side of things. " Rayne, I may to many be a cruel man, that is because I speak to a point of been so truthfull that I come out as blunt and ignorant of certain things. I am a realist, I see what I know and know it's my truth." then drinks a bit more wine, his other hand still on the tube. " Baldwin followed his fathers words, he did not stand up to his fatehr and he let you go, he is following his fathers command openly but hiding his real feelings in the dark. A man with such tourmoil in his mind and heart, you really think he will be duty bound to do anything? I think Balwin would do his duty if his resolve is to be a true knight, that follows his lords commands. Though I cna see you beleave he stand by you any way possible." then he looks at the tube and then back to Rayne. " It is what you asked of me, to research your family line and where or what it may have ben before it was and is now. All that information in this tube, it took me a while to look and find the information, all of it, through scrolls and ledgers and books that were a mountain high." then he sighs, drinking a bit more drink. "I will ask, before you read what is inside that you talk to Baldwin once more time. This I ask because I beleave that you need to know what his true feelings would be if it came to be known if your family were...." he leaves it at that, though the talk of witchcraft still hangs in the air.
"Being blunt is not truly a cruelty. You see the world in a different light than most people." Rayne would speak before sitting back in her seat some. "Baldwin did not know his father summoned me. It is only recently that I've been able to have any kind of contact with him and the contact has to be in secret. I saw him at the market, that is the only time I've laid eyes on him since we've been back. I know he hurts, because his father has said things, and he is of the mind to follow his father for the moment. I cannot blame him. His whole life has been about duty, honor, and all things that make a knight...a knight. Yet I know..I know..that if I were in any danger, any certain peril, he would be by my side in a heartbeat..." She would say that much before standing from the table and moving to the back of her little house, seeming to search for something. After a few moments, when she returns, she sets a small pouch onto the center of the table, a slight twinkling of sound coming from the container. "It is not much...for I am not a rich woman...but I know the task I sent you on for me was daunting at best. Please... allow me to do what I can to compensate your time and effort." She lets the pouch rest there, free for Marcus to take at his leisure. "If it suffices you that the conversation is not in person, then I can promise I will speak with him. If your terms require that I must meet Baldwin face to face, then I cannot make a certain promise it will be done, only a promise that I will try to attempt the conversation when I can." Perhaps the topic of witchcraft was on the table...Rayne was not about to touch that subject - if she had it her way - ever again.
Marcus nods to Rayne and the nslides the tube over. " It is best to speak to a person face to face Rayne. I want you to look into the mans eyes and speak to him about what we spoke of." then and only then you should look into the tub and read what is within. It may change your life or it may not but to what end. I do nto know, it all depends on what you make of it. Depends on what Baldwin has to say about it after and if you tell him." then drinks a bit of wine again and see's her get up and bring back a bit of coin. He looks at it and then scoops it up, he does need equipment, yes he does.
Marcus then leans back and closes his eyes. " I need to ask you a few questions. I am going to a cold place and there may be hostiles that I may need to face. magic may be involved and I am wondering if you know anything that may be of use to me in that regard. I have a few bits of knowledge and a few remedies already, it's the thought of possible magic that may make it a bit more trouble travelling. It wil be a few weeks to say the least."
Something about how Marcus puts it all has Rayne curious, yet she would not look within the tube. As promised, she would wait until she could speak with Baldwin. Which only gave her an idea on when to look at the contents of the tube itself. "Alright. I get it, Marcus. I'll talk to Baldwin about these matters. I promise." Saying that much while watching him gather the coin she's offered in payment for his help. "Thank you for doing that for me. I truly appreciate it." A smile then, and he's leaning back, closing his eyes. "For use with magic? I don't know anything at all about that. None of the texts my parents left behind have anything about witchcraft...and I don't know, personally, of anything..." She would shrug then before tilting her head one way and then another. "Hmm...the most I could do is provide you perhaps a few pieces of warm clothing. I still have some things my father wore when he took long trips or when winter would come to Woriscant. If you're interested."
Marcus nods to her, himself considering the matter closed on when she will open the tube up, though she is a curious one too but in the end it is none of his concern. "Well, I will just have to be more aware of my sorroundings concidering there may be magic involved." then thinking a bit more he nods. ' That may be appreciated, clothing of the sort may come in handy, yes indeed." as he starts to think a bit. " I may need to speak to Ottis about certain things I may require if he has the time. I am not leaving until after the tournament that is approuching, he may have time. Though if you happen to see him, do tell him that I must speak to him." then he starts to think some more. ' You know of a seamstress that may be able to provide me with a big sack but warm inside?"
The conversation continues until early evening, Rayne helping with whatever she can for the future endeavor Marcus would be on.
