The dungeons are dark and dank. The putrid scent of old sea water lies heavily in the air. Even for being here all the night before and most of the morning, Rayne is looking worse for wear. Her cloak is dampened thru, hair wet, hands covered in dried blood and still she has to deal with the other criminals whistling at her and trying to call her over. She had sent the messenger boy with several letters, and only hoped that one of them would be answered in some way soon enough.
Ottis is stopped at the door by guards as he carries as small basket. "Now stop that, " as there is a loud smack." You can get all the bloody wine ya want, this is for someone else to enjoy.." there is talk and eventualy Ottis is led thru, minus a cup of wine. "bloody thieves even the guards. " as he approaches your cell, guard in toe. Your cell is opened up and Ottis led thru.. "Dont worry boyo not like she's going to over power me and make a run for it. I'll call when Im ready to go.. " as he looks at Rayne and shakes his head. " Damn girl what'cha go and do now.. " as he sets the basket on your bed and gives you a fierce hug.. "Sadly I couldnt fit much more than some food and wine in this thing or I'd have tried to get you something better to wear. "
Rayne looks as she spies Ottis being led in, once he's being led in and then after the guard leaves she gives a shake of her head. "It wasn't me Ottis. I mean...I was found in a precarious position...but I didn't do anything..." She would say this much as he sets down that basket of food and wine. "I should have told myself better, and just stayed in my room. Gods..." Her moss green eyes sparkle with tears as she looks up to the ceiling and shakes her head once more. "He was stabbed. There was commotion...and something about a priestess being angry with their work...and then commotion..." Perhaps she seems to be speaking nonsense, but if one can decipher it... "I would have followed her out, but I saw blood on the door. I'm a healer, yeah? So I opened the door and there he was. All laid out, drunk as anything, pissed himself, and there's a knife in his throat. But I swear it wasn't me who put it there..." She would say that much before her head falls into her hands and she begins to sob gently.
Ottis grumbles as he pulls you in close and holds you yet again as you start to cry.. "lass if I thought ya was guilty I'd not be here. " he comments, " ye've too big a heart and at times no common sense but ya done good. Ya were able to save him yeah before they got to ya?" as he moves to set you down as begins to wipe your tears. "Now I can't imagine the food here being all that good, as he sets out a quarter wheel of cheese, some sliced ham, and beef. A small jar of pickles, and some bread. " I know its not much but figgured its better than what you'd be gettng here."
Rayne shakes her head a little. "That's just the thing. He's dead. The man died. And the maid saw me there and started crying murderer..." Sniffling a little, she looks to the bits of food he's brought her and there's a soft smile offered to Ottis. "You're an amazing friend. I'm lucky to call you my own." She picks up the cheese, breaking into it and chews on some thoughtfully. "Pray tell me, Master Ottis...Sir Baldwin, have you seen him. Do you know if he's heard the news? I sent him a letter much like yours and I hope he believes my innocence as truth." Breaking off another piece of cheese to nibble upon. Like a church mouse.
Ottis sighs. "Well damn Its a shame that he didn't make it, lest he could say who it was that attacked him. " as he watches you and shakes his head before takeing some bread adn laying out some meat and cheese on it. Making a sandwhich, then passing it to you. Then pours you a cup of wine. "here ya go.. " he listens and hmm's "Im sure he's gotten it, and will show up to support you, when he's able, and will no doubtedly marshal to try and find out who did the actual killing of the man."
Rayne watches him make the sandwich, giving a bit of a smile as he does, taking the sandwich when it is offered. "All I know...is she was some...woman. Screaming about how the priestess will be so angry with them." Taking a bite out of the sandwich then. "I hope he has, and I am sure he will." She smiles then, taking the cup from Ottis only then to sip from it slowly.
Ottis smiles as he finaly see's you eating and drinking. Ottis then pulls out his sketch book and flips it to a blank page, and then a bit of charcoal that he used to draw with. "can you describe her at all?" as he makes an attempt to sketch out what you saw.
Rayne frowns a bit. "I never saw her. I only heard her. They had this big to do fight in the room next to mine. Sh-she was in the room next to mine...perhaps the room was registered to her?" Rayne would try to think of all angles of possibilities. "I was going to follow her, until I saw the blood. Blood on the door handle...how could I pass that up?"
Ottis nods his head. "you couldn't as from what I've learned with Maerwynn, your to do no harm.. as you help people. " Though I'll check the register when I get back to the Inn to see who it was that signed for that room. " he refills your cup even if you've not drunk all that much.
Rayne takes another sip from that cup, and then another, as if she's trying to slake a thirst that won't go away. "Would you? Ottis you...you have no idea what your help means to me..." Then she falls silent and takes a slow breath. "I...I am sorry..I got you involved in such things.."
Ottis smiles, "well it's not as if I've anything pressing to do. " he says with a grin. "besides I dislike seeing someone framed for something they've not done. I mean with all that blood, perhaps this woman left shoe or boot prints?" as he slices off a small bit of cheese to munch on.
Rayne shakes her head a little. "She'd have blood on her hands at the very least... perhaps a trail of bloody handprints. Ones that won't match mine as I was found over the dead body..." She would say that much, taking another bite of her sandwich to chew on thoughtfully. "I think the bit on the priestess...that's important as well. I think the woman is a follower of some...god or...something.."
Ottis nods his head as he makes notes on his pad. so that he dont forget. "Well all the information should help find the person that is responceible as it seems that someone is trying to frame and ruin relations between two rivers and the Isles."
Rayne blinks and then nods to Ottis. "I've been thinking the same thing. Even one of the guards, when they saw me, they recognized that I was from Two Rivers. I've never even seen the guard before...so I found that a little odd..." Now that she was looking at the whole of it with a fresh gaze...some things seemed to make more sense. Or less sense in a senseful way.
Ottis Hmm's "well do you think you'd recognize the man if you were to see him again. Perhaps he is part of the group thats trying to discredit two rivers and promote bad blood between the two kingdoms."
Rayne nods a little. "Absolutely. I'll never forget his face, or his voice. He was the one who grabbed for me first." She would say that much before drinking a bit more of her wine and finishes off her sandwich. "You think I'll be found innocent, Ottis? Be truthful. I...I don't want to die..."
Ottis bites his lower lip. "Well honestly I am not sure, but should you get an fair trial and if Sir Baldwin and I are able to get good solid evidence then chances are you'll be fine as I am not going to let you die if I can help it and I've a feeling that for Sir Baldwin he's got a stronger motivation to see you safe. "
Rayne blushes a little, then gives a nod of her head. "Then I implore you to gather as much evidence as you can, my friend. I thank you for the food and the wine. It was a wonderful treat.." She wasn't trying to fully dismiss him, but sometimes in these circumstances.... "Will you do me...one more small favor?"
Ottis smiles as while its not a dismissal he still stands and finds a place to stow the food and wine. "just make sure the guards dont confiscate your food. " as he closes the basket and nods "If I can I will sure.. " as he reaches over to cup your cheek and caress' it.
Rayne shifts a little to remove the one necklace she wears tucked away out of sight for anyone to ever see. It's a leather strip, with a green stone hanging from it, tied in a peace knot to keep it in place. "Will you do me what I cannot do myself, and bid this gift to Sir Baldwin. In case he cannot make it here...and should...should anything happen to me..." Her gaze shifting to the ground then, as fear drives her emotions for a moment.
Ottis watches you and gently accepts the Item and tucks it carefully away "I'll see to it that he gets it. " as he holds up a finger. "Now no thinking like that, as we'll make sure you'll be free and those responcible are found and punished."
Rayne simply gives Ottis a nod, leaning up to press a kiss against his cheek. "My thanks, Master Ottis. For everything."
Ottis grins and actualy blush's just abit. "your Quite welcome.. " as he picks up the basket and calls for the guards as he's released and waves as the cell door is closed again. "I'll get started on looking for the truth and get Sir baldwins help."
<Exit Ottis>
<Enter Slider>
Marcus smiles at her and then shrugs. "I'm a very hard man to find, yes indeed. Though it so happen that I heard a disturbing rumor and decided to see if you were alright, asked around and was told you be in the dungeon." he looks around to the others within and frowns slightly. " You alright? You hurt?" concern in his voice obvious , then his hand goes to the bars and lightly touches her head with his fingers." Since you told me not to break you out, I came like you asked." he says this in a whisper.
Rayne would shake her head a little. "No. No I'm fine, and Master Ottis has seen that I've eaten something a little ore decent than prison food." Saying that much before she takes a breath. "I need you to help Master Ottis. He's going to be looking into some things for me...and he might need someone with your....range of skills...to help him as well. Please. For my sake?"
Marcus looks at her and sighs, shaking his head at her and once again he whispers. " I can get you out, just tell me the word and I'll try my best." his words serious, he can alwways dissappear like he has always done, find a new home and a new name. Though at the mention of helping Ottis and with his own unique set of skills, he wonders what has been spoken of him. " What do you know of me Rayne?" now there is a obvious concern, if she knows, who else.
"I know you're never around when things get thick...I know you always tend to slip away...and you carry around swords you keep hidden. I know you have an interest in anything you can get your nose into. So yes, Master Marcus.. a man like you must have many talents, and I'm hoping such is the case and you'll be willing to help me." Rayne would say, taking a breath and letting it out slowly before pushing away from the iron bars. "Unless you will not, in which case do let me know and I shall seek my aide from elsewhere..."
Marcus looks at her as she describes a few things she knows and then licks his lips slowly. Now he looks towards the gaurds, eyeing them for a bit and then back to Rayne. He whispers to her then once again. " I'll help but I'll not be put in chains." there is that line, that freedom that he has , maybe he is afraid of losing that. "So, what you know of this, I have no details, the more I know the better."
Rayne sighs a little, turning back to look upon the man. "What do I know of what? Of what happened to me? I know I was found hovered over a man, hands covered in his blood, with the knife beside me. Those are witnessed facts. I know that before hand, the man had a fight in the room with a woman, and the woman soon left him...for dead. That is my account." Saying that much to see what more he might ask of her.
Looking at Rayne, Marcus sighs and then nods. " Nothing that may be give her away, that woman. You heard things right, what you hear? What were they talkign about, something I can go for."
Rayne sighs a little. "Two things. Something about a priestess, and how they will make her mad. Then...when she left the room, the blood was on her hands first. So she'll have left a blood trail." Saying that much before pacing a little bit.
Marcus looks at Ryane and that alone he can start some where. " Well, if that is all you can give me, I can see what I can find." then thinking a bit more, he hmms. " Did you happen to see her at all, that may help?"
Rayne shakes her head. "Unfortunately not... the blood on the door. The man who was murdered. He distracted me." She would admit to that much before taking a breath to let out slowly. "Ottis has the same information, so I figured you two could help."
Slider nods to her then, his eyes on her for a very, very long time. " Rayne, I do not make friends, hard to make friends in my profession. I spin lies, I work lies and use people and then I leave. I get payed and then I leave, I do my job." then he whispers once again. " I will do what I can, I'll do it because I owe a few people in Two Rivers a few debts. Though if I find out this is a lost cause, I am leaving but I give you one play with me....if you ever require me to save you, get you out of here..tell me but a debt will be owed."
Rayne blinks and then gives a grunt. "At least you're honest about it, Master Marcus. Know this, if you help, then this is your favor to me. Yet I will not be in debt with you. For your aide to me will buy whatever silence I can afford you." If this was how the man was going to spin it, then so be it. "If this is a lost cause, then leave, but know that I will not require your help in getting out of this cell beyond clearing my name. Therefore, no debts will be between us regardless." A smirk then as she tilts her head, "What were you doing in Piradin anyway?"
Slider smiles brightly towards Rayne and then licks his lips very slowly as he listens to her words. His answer is quick and to a point. " My master taught me the best silence is a dead silence, I tend to agree." a hint of a threat, maybe but there is something dark about marcus, one that he has kept hidden till now. "I stand by my word Rayne, I will help as best as I can, say anything you want about me but I'll dissappear." then that smile fades a bit and then winks. " Now to find the woman, I will speak to Ottis and see what we can come up with."
Rayne gives a grunt, only to move back a few steps. "Very well, Master Marcus. I bid you a good evening, as I am sure the hour is growing late."
Marcus looks at her as she steps back and then he gives her a nod. " As you say, it is late and I have a appointment with the Queens Council tomorrow. I do hope nothing was said to incriminate me." as he always gets a shaft and needs to fix it some way.
