Summary: Prince and the Commoner | |||||||

The beach isn't as busy as one would think, and Nathan isn't even all that near to the city, he likes the private tidal pool he discovered as a child, nearer to the trees, and thus he was out there, alone in his thoughts, with his fire burning, throwing up the occasional spark or the like, the soft cast from it rebounding from stones that hide the large pool. He was 'hiding' out here persay, because he did not wish to deal with politics today, no, he was resting alone, no longer burdened by his formal armor as he was expected to be.
Since there was none around - to Rayne's knowledge - that would be put off by her less than formal garb, she's opted for the pants and tunic look. Her cloak shed and likely back in her room where they were being put up for the time those of Two Rivers were visiting The Isles. Of course, being here, there were curiosities she couldn't help but succumb to, and one of those were of the plant life growing in the woods. So she had trampled down a path or two, picking flowers and weeds, and other plant life that seemed interesting and mysterious. Coming out of the woods, she wasn't paying much mind until she heard the crackling of a fire and moved to duck behind a rock. Not sure who she was going to run into out here, and she wondered if Ottis had fancied a trip to the beach, or perhaps Marcus was looming near. Coming around after a moment, she would approach slowly, a stray breeze causing her clothing and hair to flutter.
Nathan is still easily determined as Royalty from his bearing, the fur lined cloak he had and was on..the ornate blade nearby, even his clothing, if he's determined there's some one nearby, he isn't responding, or maybe he isn't concerned. Truly hard to say isn't it, but the fire is inviting and warm, there is a reason he isn't inclined to leave it, and his spot to nap at.
Rayne catches sight of all things Royal, and she would give a light scoff. Keeping that satchel of hers close against her form as she comes around to the other side of the fire. He didn't seem to take notice of her, and the fire was indeed warm. It wouldn't harm anything or anyone to kneel by the fire for just a moment, right?
Nathan's eyes don't open immediately, maybe it's the way the breeze stopped and broke around her, or maybe it was just because he had to awaken eventually with a groan of pain. "I wouldn't try to hold me ransom." He says, lazily, far to confident in him self..or maybe he just knows some thing else..that, and clearly, he hasn't really taken in whom is here.
Rayne scoffs once more. "As if I would attempt a thing like that. Wouldn't bode well for the relationship between kingdoms if I were to be so foolish." Her words were sharp, perhaps slightly accented. Straightening herself a moment, she watches the man, and she took note of that painful groan. "You know, laying against rocks probably isn't the most comfortable of positions, if I may be so bold." Of course, Knight, King, Prince...she wasn't sure, but he was a Royal something-or-other for certain.
Nathan's eyes are slowly pulling into focus at the speaker, taking her in. "I am a Prince-Protector, I often have to wear armor, it often leads to discomfort in my shoulders, rocks are softer then hard plate and training." Then he shifts a bit, trying to work the knots out of his body. "Whom are you foreigner that you invade Royal Property?"
Opening her satchel while listening to Nathan speak, she bites the inside of her lip a moment. "Sounds like a rough time..." Shifting forward while pulling a vial from her satchel, she offers it to him. "Here, a salve for you. Just rub a little into your muscles that ache and you should feel better in no time." Keeping the vial offered to the man as he asks that last question. "Rayne, simply, from Two Rivers. I came with the rest of the group to join certain festivities here...I thought we were Royal guests. Have I been mistaken?"
Nathan's eyes dance in amusement at her question, but he accepts the Salve. "No, you are not, this is not actually royal property Miss Rayne, simply a hidden tide pool I discovered as a boy." He doesn't try to put the salve on..after all, there's a commoner here! Disrobing would be ever so rude! "You may swim in it if you like, but do not try to harvest the giant clams, this is why I keep it a secret."
Rayne gives the man a -look- after a moment and then closes her satchel after he accepts the salve. "Well how is one supposed to know where such a thing begins and ends? Especially if they're not from here?" No, she wasn't going to hold her tongue, after all a Prince-Protector wasn't royalty was it? Perhaps a bit higher stature than herself but not by much in the woman's eyes. Still, she would shift to sit on a rock, near the fire but outside the water. "You didn't offer your name in return..." Pointing out at least that much.
Nathan moves to sit up right, oh she's sassy, it amuses him. "I am Nathan Onimus, Prince. Protector." He says, seeing if she understands the two titles are seperate when he emphasizes them as such. "You do not have such a sense of humor." He says and looks at the pool. "This salve, did you create it?" He asks, suddenly interested.
Rayne blinks at what Nathan says at first, but then she simply makes another face. "So...is this the part where I scramble about, hastily apologizing for not recognizing such nobility and then scamper off frightened?" Cause if he expected such, it wasn't going to happen. "I do beg apologies, Sire, I truly wasn't aware it was you." Or that he was..who he was...wasn't from here after all! "Uhm...y-yes, I did...it's kinda what I do...for a living."
Nathan inclines his head a bit at her. "I wouldn't fret to much, theoritically, I could have lied about who I am to hide amoungst the commoners, that can be a story you can use." Clearly, Nathan doesn't always like being reminded to strut about as royalty. "Then perhaps you can help me apply it?" Forward is Nathan.
Rayne seems to smile at what Nathan says and gives a nod of her head. "You could have...so that makes me wonder why you did not." Offering those words before giving another smile, shifting to stand from the rock to begin moving behind him. "I can, if you truly wish me to. Might save you a mess from trying to do it yourself later."
Nathan inclines his head a bit at Rayne's words. "I was thinking that could be a concern..or that I'd end up having to wipe it off my cuirass, and then the damned fool of a quartermaster would never give up." He says, Commoners are so useful..healers are at least. "I am afraid, even if I did, given that I am to be apart of more official matters, you'd no doubt discover who I truly was."
Rayne raises her brow a little and then shakes her head some. She would move so that she was behind him, taking the salve from him. "Would you think I'd have treated you differently if I knew you were a Prince or a Commoner? We are all of this land, Sire, be you rich or poor or somewhere in between. Status is a person's way of exuding betterness and propriety, and I for one, want nothing of it." She wondered how he would react to that, her words were genuine, as if she truly believes them.
Nathan will move to lift his tunic, not surprisingly, a fencer's tunic, revealing the muscles under his skin, corded, some one who takes that Protector title quite seriously. "Well, I suppose you may have, you might think I'm a poacher, no?" He asks as he waits for her to..do what ever it is healers do. "We who know the sea, feel the same, that in the end..we are all the same..if she chooses to make us so." Not quite the same belief, but he can some day be persuaded!
Rayne blinks a little as she takes the stopper from the vial and pours a bit of the salve into a hand. Immediately it smells of mint and sweetness, and she takes in his form while beginning to rub the salve into his shoulder. Though she uses a bit of force, her hands are gentle, even for one who labors such as she. "Only if you had animals around you, perhaps. Instead you're near the ocean with a book...hardly a poacher's look, and I know poachers." She would say that much while massaging that salve into his skin. "Do you believe the sea chooses to do such?"
Nathan glances towards the water, oh he shouldn't be trusting a commoner in the slightest..from another land at that. "It provides as much as it takes, it is in the end, what makes all the same, powerless against it." He says and rolls his shoulders a bit at the stronger press to them then expected, but she can find the knots in his muscles. "Tell me..do you often simply provide treatment to strangers of unknown Royal Families?" If she can be so outspoken, he can tease her a bit.
Rayne smiles a little as she finds those knots, using another palmfull of the salve to continue working on those knots. "I have heard stories of the sea and it's temper..." Saying that much before hearing that next question from him and she slows her working a little. "I simply provide treatment to anyone who needs it. Again, status and social standing do not hinder my choice. You could have been a poor woman's ailing son or the King of this land and I would treat you." Saying that much before she would move to work on his other shoulder.
Nathan's body has never really been worked on like this, young, and he rarely visits places where one might find it, she'll find she's lulling him into a state of trust in a way. "The Sea is dangerous, but it can also provide you much bounty if you learn to respect it." He murmurs quietly and glances a bit over his shoulder. "Do you wish the same in kind?" He teases her.
Rayne chuckles a little. "I found the sea to be quite beautiful as we journeyed here from Two Rivers. I'd never been on a ship before, much less stayed on one to cross the sea. It was...intriguing...I found myself wondering what more could be beyond the horizons." Saying that much as she withdraws her hands, placing the stopper back into the bottle. "I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean, Nathan." Yep, first name, no title.
Nathan will move to slip his tunic back down and glance at the sea again. "Never turn your back on the sea, if you do that..you will pay a dire price." He says, gesturing at it and then moving to stand, glancing down at the fire. "In time perhaps, you'll find out what I meant." He says with a cheshire smile.
Rayne glances out to the sea and then back to Nathan. "Do you travel on the sea often?" It was a valid question, since he spoke on it. Though he was a prince right? So how was it he afforded to leave his people? Looking over to him as he speaks again, she raises a brow and then offers the vial over. "Here. You can keep it. In case you'd like to use it again. I do hope you feel better, Your Highness." Offering that much and once the vial is taken she turns as if to leave.
Nathan will accept the vial, but make sure she is going the -right- way. "Often enough to know the dangers of it. I have considered trying to learn how to command a warship of my own." He says to her and glances at the woods. "Be careful to not stray to far, it is a devilish thing to find those who get lost in the woods at night. To many places to fall."
Rayne stops herself. "Well it would be nice to have an escort back to the city itself, but the woods have always been my home. I feel more comfortable within them than anywhere else. I'll find my way, Good Prince, fear not. You shall see me again, I'm sure." A smirk as she turns, and catches her footing off a rock only to continue walking away.
Nathan steps forward in case she falls, but it seems she's rather inclined indeed towards the woods. "Oh good bye Rayne..some thing tells me I need to keep an eye open for you..sneaking about the castle to raid our apothecaries." He teases her retreating form.
Rayne stops in mid-stride to turn around and regards Nathan with a steely glare. "Get one thing straight, before you prancy yourself back to your Royal Palace with fancy plates and too tight pantaloons." She takes a step forward. "I may be a Commoner a little out of place, and poor of coin, but you will not now, nor ever, be able to accuse me of being a thief. So begging your pardon, Prince.." There's venom in the title she spits out, and then she stops in her spill and sighs. There was no sense of it was there? Perhaps she should have trusted her gut feeling and never agreed to come here. "Good night, Prince Onimus."
Nathan inclines his head, as his training enforces, he does not rise to anger. "As I said..no sense of humor, now if you could only instill some of that nature to my Sister.." he says and then waves his hand, again, towards the woods nearer to the city. "Go, but do be careful, not every one here will be as friendly."
